Harry Kane predicts major selection headache for England interim boss Lee Carsley

Harry Kane said England’s conveyor belt of talent will cause ‘a headache’ for interim boss Lee Carsley.

Bayern Munich’s striker said the growing number of emerging attacking players bodes well for the Three Lions as back-to-back Nations League matches beckon. Cole Palmer’s stunning shows for Chelsea have caught the eye. A welcome goalscoring return for Jack Grealish along with Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham who are likely to feature after being absent last month gives Carsley plenty of options.

Kane said: “We have a lot of great competition for places in that area, especially from a striker’s point of view, that is great to see. That is what you want. The manager has got a headache, that’s for sure.

“We have some great talent in the country. Everyone is playing at a really high level, in big games, in big moments, and it will be interesting to see who will be there next week. From an England point of view it is great to see everyone doing well.”

Kane reflected on Bayern’s 1-0 defeat at Villa Park as ‘one of those nights’ as he gave a nod of respect to Unai Emery ’s side. Jhon Duran’s brilliant strike 11 minutes from time separated the sides.

England’s all-time leading scorer was on the end of some criticism from the German press - but he should have been played in by Serge Gnabry after the winger and forced Emi Martinez into a magnificent stop in the dying seconds from one of the few chances created for him.

Kane said: “They are a good side. There is still a long way to go in this competition to really see how it pans out. From our point of view, it was one of those nights where we could have been out for another half hour and we’d have found it difficult to score.

“We knew it would be a big night for them. That the atmosphere would be extremely loud and we knew how excited their fans would be to see the Champions League on their own ground.

“Their keeper had one of those games, where it keeps coming off him. Even my chance at the end, he pulls off a fantastic save so you have games like that. The important thing for us is not to panic.

“But they’re a good side and came up against a good team in us and managed to get a result, so fair play to them.”
