\Two separate cases have been registered at the Belthangady police station over objectionable Facebook posts—one allegedly targeting an activist’s campaign and the other defaming a religious centre.
In the first incident, Jayant T. (46), a resident of Kokkada village in Kadaba taluk, filed a complaint after discovering an obscene and defamatory post related to the Soujanya protest movement on a Facebook profile named Praveen Lobo. The post, allegedly offensive in nature, was found while Jayant was browsing his account on July 11.
In another case, Chetan N. (28), a resident of Dharmasthala village, filed a complaint after spotting a derogatory post from an account under the name “Dr. Verma.” The post reportedly contained vulgar remarks and an image aimed at individuals associated with the religious trust in Dharmasthala.
Following the complaints, Belthangady police have registered FIRs in both cases and initiated investigations. Authorities have stated that appropriate action will be taken after verifying the authenticity and intent behind the posts.
