Israeli airstrike targets residential building in Syria's capital Damascus, two killed

Israel conducted an attack on a residential building located in the Mezzah suburb, situated in the western part of Syria 's capital Damascus . The strike, targeted at a residential building, resulted in two casualties and several injuries, according war monitor reports.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights , based in Britain, said in a statement, "An Israeli air strike targeted a residential building in the Mazzeh neighbourhood frequented by Hezbollah leaders and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards ."

The identities of the two casualties have not been disclosed yet.

The attack, which occurred in the Mazzeh neighbourhood, marked the second strike in the area within two days. Mazzeh is known for housing various security headquarters and embassies.

Israel has intensified its military operations targeting Iranian-connected assets within Syrian territory. While these strikes have been ongoing for an extended period, the frequency of such raids has increased significantly since the October 7 assault by Hamas , a Palestinian militant organisation, on Israeli soil last year.

In an another attack this week , Israeli air strikes on Damascus in the early hours of Tuesday resulted in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to nine others, according to a military source cited by Syrian state media. The official Syrian news agency SANA had reported that the attack was launched from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, with Israeli warplanes and drones targeting multiple locations in the capital.
