Americans will be able to order free COVID-19 test kits that will be mailed to their homes starting this month, as per Google Trends.

When the federal program reopens U.S. households will be able to order as many as four nasal swab tests at COVIDTests.gov . An exact date has not been given by the U.S. Health and Human services agency overseeing the program

According to agency spokesperson, current virus strains can be detected by the test. They can be ordered ahead of holiday season, when families and friends come together for celebrations.

An updated COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by US regulators last month. It is designed to combat the recent virus strains and hopefully, forthcoming winter ones, as well.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already has recommended this fall’s shot for everyone age 6 months and older.

Many Americans have some immunity to COVID-19 from past infections, vaccinations, or both. However, this protection weakens over time. Last fall's vaccinations targeted a different variant of the coronavirus, a strain that is no longer present.

This evolving situation suggests the need for updated vaccines to address current virus strains.
