NEW DELHI: National Conference Farooq Abdullah on Saturday demanded an investigation into the rising terror attacks, saying he suspects these attacks to be a plot to "destabilise" the newly formed government. Farooq Abdullah, whose party heads the new government, also suggested that the terrorists should not be killed and instead taken into custody to be interrogated about the broader network.
"It should be investigated. How is it that the government has come and this is happening? I have a doubt that is it done by the people who were trying to destabilise the government...If they (terrorists) are caught then we will get to know who is doing this. They should not be killed, they should be caught and asked who is behind them...We should check if there is an agency who is trying to destabilise Omar Abdullah ," news agency ANI quoted Farooq Abdullah as saying.
The valley had seen an uptick in terror with five terror related attacks reported since the new government under Omar Abdullah took oath last month.
Soon, the NC chief's demand was also backed by Sharad Pawar, who pressed that the central government and home ministry take the former chief minister's demand seriously.
"Farooq Abdullah is the tallest personality of the Jammu and Kashmir ...He spent his life serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I have no doubt about his integrity and honesty. If such a leader is making any statement then the central government especially the home ministry should take it seriously and try to work out on how that situation can be resolved," Sharad Pawar said in Baramati on Saturday.
However, the BJP hit out at Farooq Abullah for demanding an investigation and said that the former chief minister was already aware of Pakistan's involvement in spreading terror in the region. "Farooq Abdullah knows that this terrorism is coming from Pakistan... This is a well-known fact. What is there to investigate in this?," BJP president Ravinder Raina was quoted as telling news agency ANI.
" He knows that the terrorist attacks that are taking place in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and terrorist organizations are involved in this... We all should support our army, police and security forces... We have to fight unitedly against those who are the enemies of humanity," Raina added.
BJP leader Kavinder Gupta said that a responsible leader should not resort to making such statements.
"Peace is maintained in Jammu and Kashmir due to the work of agencies...No one said that Omar Abdullah's government is being destabilized... many times such attempts are made by external forces... it is because of the security forces that the policy of zero tolerance is being implemented... this is absolutely wrong statement. He (Farooq Abdullah) should not make such irresponsible statements," Gupta said.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi commented on Farooq Abdullah's statement, saying the government's responsibility for maintaining law and order in Jammu and Kashmir. Owaisi said, “The LG is accountable for law and order, and if terrorist attacks are occurring, the BJP must take responsibility. I’m pointing out that terrorists are coming from Pakistan—why aren't they being stopped? What actions is the Modi government taking? It is the government’s duty to prevent these incidents and apprehend the perpetrators. This is a failure on the part of the Narendra Modi government for not being able to stop these terrorists.”
On Friday, two non-locals were shot by terrorists in Mazhama, located in the Magam area of Budgam district. Security forces sealed off the area following the incident to capture the assailants. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
