NEW DELHI: The Congress party has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly neglecting the ongoing crisis in Manipur , accusing him of "studiously avoiding" a visit to the state while planning other trips. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed discontent over the government's handling of the situation, which has seen violence and suffering.

Ramesh in his X post on the issues in Manipur since violence erupted said that, "On June 3, 2023, a three-member Commission of Enquiry was set up to investigate the causes and spread of violence and riots. It was given six months to submit its report."

"No report has been submitted till now. The Commission has just been given time till Nov 24, 2024 to do so," he added

The three -member commission, led by former Chief Justice of Guwahati high court Ajai Lamba, retired IAS officer Himanshu Shekhar Das and retired IPS officer Aloka Prabhakar, was initially given six months to report its findings.

However, the report has not been submitted till now, and the deadline has been extended to November 24, 2024, news agency PTI reported.

Ramesh pointed out that the ethnic violence between the Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo groups from the adjoining hills has claimed more than 220 lives and left thousands homeless. "Meanwhile, the anguish and agony of the people of Manipur continues unabated. And the non-biological PM continues to make plans to travel in other parts of the country and abroad, studiously avoiding a visit to this most troubled state," Ramesh said.
