Pakistan doing 'balle-balle' over Congress-NC alliance in J&K, says PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched an attack on the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance in Jammu and Kashmir , accusing it of aligning with Pakistan ’s interests. PM Modi warned that a vote for Congress would lead to the reinstatement of Article 370 , which would, in his words, pave the way for violence to return to the Valley.

“Every vote given to Congress will implement the manifesto of PDP and NC. They want to bring back Article 370. This means they want bloodshed in the valley again,” PM Modi said at a public rally in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir.

He further added that the Congress-NC alliance has been warmly received by Pakistan, which he claimed has openly voiced support for the partnership.

“There may not be enthusiasm about the Congress-National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, but the neighbouring country (Pakistan) is very enthusiastic about them. Pakistan is having a great time (Balle Balle) over the Congress-National Conference alliance,” PM Modi said.

"Pakistan is very happy with the Congress-NC manifesto and has openly extended its support. Pakistan's Defence Minister has openly come out in support of the Congress-NC alliance. He says their agenda is the same as that of Pakistan. Congress and NC want to implement Pakistan's agenda here in J&K,” he added, targeting Congress in J&K.

PM Modi said that the upcoming elections will be a turning point for the region, framing the choice as one that will define the future of Jammu and Kashmir. “This election is about choosing Jammu and Kashmir's future,” PM Modi said, while highlighting the need to break free from what he called the "political legacy of the three families"—Congress, NC, and PDP—that, according to him, have kept the state in ruins.

Addressing a rally in Srinagar earlier in the day, PM Modi praised the high voter turnout in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, stating that it represents a rejection of parties that "sympathize with stone-pelters and terrorists".

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are being conducted in three phases, with the first phase completed on September 18. The remaining two rounds will be held on September 25 and October 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 8.
