NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah has sparked a huge controversy with objectionable comments which appeared to be directed at colonel Sofia Qureshi , who had conducted regular press briefings, along with wing commander Vyomika Singh and foriegn secretary Vikram Misri, sharing details of the ' Operation Sindoor ' launched by Indian armed forces to strike terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
"Those people (terrorists) who had wiped out the sindoor (vermilion) of our sisters (in the Pahalgam terrorist attack), We avenged them by sending their sister to destroy these 'kate pite' people," Shah said while addressing a gathering in Ramkunda village near Indore.
"They (terrorists) killed our Hindu brothers by making them remove their clothes. PM Modi ji responded by sending their sister in an army plane to strike them in their houses. They made our sisters widows, so Modiji sent the sister of their community to strip them and teach them a lesson", the BJP leader added.
Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari shared the video of Shah on X and asked whether the BJP agrees with the minister's "low thinking"?
Patwari demanded an answer from Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Shah's remark.
As his speech drew huge criticism, the tribal welfare minister clarified that his remarks should not be construed otherwise.
"Don't look at my speech in a different context. It is not in the context of what you are thinking. They are our sisters. They have taken revenge with great strength along with the army," he stated.
'Dismiss the minister': Congress
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge slammed Shah for his "extremely insulting, shameful and vulgar" remarks about colonel Qureshi.
"The terrorists of Pahalgam wanted to divide the country, but the country was united throughout Operation Sindoor in giving a befitting reply. The mentality of BJP-RSS has always been anti-women. First they trolled the wife of the naval officer martyred in Pahalgam on social media, then harassed the daughter of foreign secretary Vikram Misri and now BJP ministers are making such indecent comments about our braveheart Sofiya Qureshi," Kharge posted on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, should sack the minister.
