Omar reverses LG decision, restores November-December exam calendar for schools

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday announced reverting to the traditional Nov-Dec academic calendar in the UT, reversing the LG administration ’s decision to implement the March-April examination schedule.

The decision will be implemented up to class 9 this year. Omar said classes 10 and above will go back to Nov-Dec calendar from next year, and for the current session, their exams will be held in March-April next year, as already notified before the assembly elections.

The LG administration had in 2022 shifted the examination schedule to March-April to bring J&K’s academic calendar “in sync with the rest of the country”. However, the decision had not gone down well with students and parents, who argued that it was not feasible in J&K because of several reasons, especially the weather conditions.

Soon after Omar govt took charge, there was a chorus from students, parents and other stakeholders demanding to bring back the old academic calendar.
