NEW DELHI: Congress has come to the defense of its leader, Rahul Gandhi , following controversial statements made by Union minister Ravneet Bittu and other NDA leaders. The party has demanded SPG security for both Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi .

Kuldeep Rathore, an AICC national spokesperson and Congress legislator, expressed his disapproval of Bittu's comments and the BJP 's actions, emphasising the need for increased security for both Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, including the reinstatement of their SPG protection.

During a press conference in Shimla, Rathore reminded Bittu of his family's history with the Congress and questioned the motives behind his appointment as a minister by the BJP. He accused the BJP of fostering a hostile environment against Rahul Gandhi, which he believes threatens the leader's safety.

Rathore demanded an apology from Bittu for their statements and stressed the importance of ensuring Rahul Gandhi's security given the current circumstances.

On Wednesday, Congress leader Ajay Maken filed a complaint against Union leader Ravneet Singh Bittu at the Tughlaq Road Police Station in response to Bittu's remarks about Lok Sabha leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday.

"Bittu had told Rahul Gandhi that he would be in the same condition the way his grandmother was. We all know that Indira Gandhi was hit with 34 bullets and Rahul Gandhi's father was killed for trying to maintain peace. These comments are being made against someone whose father and grandmother sacrificed their lives for the nation. Politics in India cannot stoop lower than this," Maken said while interacting with reporters.

Bittu's comments were a reaction to Rahul Gandhi's assertion that Sikhs were unable to wear the kada or turban in the country.

He criticised the BJP for not condemning or silencing Bittu's remarks and mentioned another BJP leader's offer of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who cuts Rahul Gandhi's tongue.

Maken said that the Congress party is not intimidated by death threats and that their leader's voice will not be silenced. He demanded strict action against Bittu and filed complaints against several other politicians, including an ex-Delhi BJP MLA, a Shiva Sena MLA, a Union minister and BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, and a UP minister.
