A new song by rapper Kanye West , now known as Ye, glorifying Nazi leader Adolf Hitler has amassed nearly 10 million views on Elon Musk ’s X platform, despite being banned from YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music, according to AFP. Titled “Heil Hitler” and released on May 8, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat, the song features West rapping amid a backdrop of Black men in animal pelts chanting the title. The track concludes with an excerpt of a Hitler speech. West, a 24-time Grammy winner, has faced backlash for repeated anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi remarks in recent years.
“We removed the content and will continue to take down reuploads,” a YouTube spokesperson told NBC News, as cited by AFP. Reddit also vowed to remove the song, with a spokesperson stating, “Hate and anti-Semitism have absolutely no place on Reddit,” per AFP report.
Elon Musk slammed for allowing the song
Since Elon Musk’s 2022 acquisition of Twitter (now X), critics argue he has allowed hate speech to flourish under the guise of free speech. Twitter did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for comment. Critics reportedly are slamming Tesla and SpaceX CEO for amplifying the song, saying that he is giving platform to those who share his political beliefs.
West’s Twitter account was deactivated in February after a string of anti-Semitic rants where he called himself a “Nazi.” His Yeezy fashion brand website was also taken offline after selling swastika-emblazoned T-shirts. Adidas ended its lucrative partnership with West in 2022 over his anti-Semitic comments, though Forbes estimates his net worth at $400 million.
West has been open about his bipolar disorder and claimed on “The Download” podcast to have an autism diagnosis, AFP reports.
