AJ Styles has been absent from WWE after his match against Universal Champion Cody Rhodes during Clash at the Castle in Scotland on 15th June 2024. The Phenomenal One, however, is not entirely out of the ring as he is still very much active but performing only at house shows, and at one Pro Wrestling NOAH match. Now, a recent report reveals the prospect of Styles’ current status as a professional wrestler.
What’s going on with AJ Styles?
AJ Styles, one of the most prominent superstars of WWE has been absent for quite a while following his feud with Cody Rhodes for the Universal Title shot after his fake retirement. The superstar was not booked in any matches since June. A new report from Fightful Select revealed that The Phenomenal One is perfectly healthy without any injuries sustained and clear to wrestle. However, he is not being used by the promotion right now for undisclosed reasons.
Still, Styles’ is very much active in performing his in-ring skills at live shows. But again, last month he hinted that the Japanese tour for NOAH would be his last.
“If you don’t know already, when I’m in Japan, ever since I was with the Bullet Club, I had a mask made for the big shows of the year, and now it’s tradition that I have a mask when I walk out (in Japan). This possibly could be the last one you see on AJ Styles, so let’s get it,” Styles said in a video published by WWE on YouTube.
The WWE appearance of the 47-year-old has been minimized in the last few months still, he was in a few feuds with the top names in the company including Rhodes and Randy Orton. Also, his last match against Orton was on May 10 at SmackDown as he lost against the Viper in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament.
As for his WWE return is concerned, it is unlikely that he will return to the roaster anytime soon as it has already been stacked with several dense storylines and facing time constraints to book more matches. According to a recent report from Fightful Select, Piper Niven, and Mia Yim's match in the recent Friday Night SmackDown was cut short as well as their entrances. So, as of now, it is unclear when Styles will return to WWE.

If WWE don't have any plans for AJ Styles then they should just trade him to RAW.
