Take on summer in summer in style with miniskirts & hot pants

Miniskirts and hot pants, a summer staple, have always been in vogue due to nostalgic dressing and a collective shift towards unapologetic self-expression. Celebrities and influencers too, keep reinventing them – think sporty, tailored, or punk-inspired looks. At recently held fashion weeks in Milan and Paris, labels like Miu Miu, Gucci, Prada, and Chanel, showcased refreshing takes on wearing miniskirts.


How to style them

• Pair your miniskirt or hot pants with a white shirt. You can also opt for a longer shirt which looks even cuter when it peeks out from under the miniskirt
• Wear a co-ord set of a monotone top and skirt/hot pants for a cool, relaxed look
• For a more stylish and sexier look, opt for a corset. Its structure will complement the flow of the skirt
• For a special occasion, you can pair your skirt with a bralette and layer it with a blazer
• You can also pair your bottoms with oversized shirts, crop blazers, or relaxed knits
• Add layers. Lightweight vests, sheer jackets, or button-downs tied around the waist can elevate the look
• Make use of statement belts, especially with hot pants

• Mini bottoms look dull if not accessorised well. Add sunglasses, headscarves, chunky belts to elevate your entire look
• Ishita Mangal, a fashion designer and influencer, recommends wearing jewellery. She says, “If you’re feeling the Y2K vibe, wear big hoops, stack your necklaces, add charms to your bracelets and bags”
• To keep it minimal, Singh suggests wearing lightweight jewellery, “You can decide on the accessories. In the morning, wear a few rings and earrings. For a night event, layer chains, add longer earrings and bracelets, depending on your look.”
• Adding to the tips, Karanam shares, “Sunglasses—whether tiny or oversized— along with anklets, headscarves, hair clips, and tote or micro bags, can make short bottoms stand out”
