Preity Zinta's portrayal of Naina Catherine Kapur in the beloved 2003 film ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ remains a career highlight. The movie, directed by Nikkhil Advani, tells the story of Naina (Zinta), whose life in New York City is transformed by her charming neighbor Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh Khan). The poignant death scene of Aman made every heart cry. And even after so many years, the mere mention of the scene makes fans cry a river. Recently, Preity Zinta shared that she is no different, revealing that she, too, cries every time she watches this particular scene, revealing a deeply personal reason that extends beyond her involvement in the movie.
Responding to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) who expressed their emotional reaction to the film and praised her performance, Preity Zinta shared a heartbreaking connection to the story. The fan wrote, “@realpreityzinta ma’am, every time I watch Kal Ho Naa Ho, I cry like a kid. You absolutely nailed Naina Catherine Kapur. Learnt a lesson as well that is love sometimes means letting go." In her reply, Preity revealed, “Yes, I cry when I see it, and I cried when we were filming it too! My first love died in a car crash, so this film always hit different. Fun Fact – Most scenes, all actors cried naturally…. And Aman’s death scene had everyone crying in front of the camera and behind it too!"
‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, which also stars Saif Ali Khan in a prominent role, was re-released in theaters last year, allowing fans to once again experience the magic created by the lead trio. The film's continued immense love from audiences sparked discussions and anticipation regarding a potential sequel. However, director Nikkhil Advani, in a conversation with Mukesh Chhabra, clarified that there are currently no plans for a ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho 2’, expressing his opinion that the original film should remain untouched by a sequel.
