Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court has taken a serious view of the incident where a constable was crushed to death by a tractor driver belonging to the sand mafia in Balrampur district. Constable Shiv Bachan Singh went to stop illegal sand mining from the Kanhar river when the incident occurred.
Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha heard the matter in the High Court's vacation bench on Tuesday, noting the gravity of the situation. The court remarked that this incident happened despite directives to stop illegal mining, terming it a very serious issue reflecting the state of affairs. The High Court has issued notices to the Mineral Secretary and the Forest Department, seeking their response. The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for 9 June.
It may be recalled that the forest department was taking action to prevent illegal sand mining from the Kanhar river in the Sanawal police station area of Balrampur district.
The deceased constable, Shiv Bachan Singh, was part of this team. While attempting to stop a tractor carrying sand, the driver, instead of halting, ran over the constable, resulting in his death while being taken to the hospital.
