Guwahati: Assam Congress MP Rakibul Hussain and several block Congress committees have filed FIRs against Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, two BJP leaders, and a Shiv Sena leader. The complaints accuse them of using “unparliamentary” language against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and issuing threats to his life. Hussain lodged his FIR at Mererchar police station in Bongaigaon district on Tuesday, and more FIRs followed on Wednesday from various block Congress units. The police have confirmed an investigation is underway and have made a general diary entry at Mererchar Police Station.

In Hussain’s constituency of Samaguri, members of the Bajiagaon Block Congress Committee also lodged an FIR on Wednesday, demanding the arrest of the accused. Additional FIRs were filed by the Lowkhowa Block Congress Committee at Rupahihat police station and by the Srijangram Block Congress Committee at Mererchar police station earlier this week.

“As you may be aware, the Gandhi family has suffered badly in the hands of extremists. In 1984, Indira Gandhi fell to bullets. In 1991, Shri Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a human bomb. In spite of this, the government has not only failed to provide adequate security to the surviving members of the Gandhi family, but also turned a blind eye to any threats to them,” read the FIR filed by Hussain.
