Guwahati: A civil defence mock drill was conducted across Assam on Wednesday to test inter-agency coordination, emergency response, and preparedness for war-like scenarios.
In Guwahati, the 10th APBn at Kahilipara conducted a large-scale exercise, mirroring similar drills held at 20 different locations statewide. The initiative, organised by the directorate general of civil defence, Assam, in collaboration with Kamrup Metro district administration, aimed to strengthen operational readiness among security forces and emergency response teams.
A key highlight was an "Air Raid Simulation Exercise", focusing on aerial threat response, civilian evacuation, and damage mitigation strategies. Conducted under realistic conditions, the simulation was designed to enhance the preparedness of civil and security establishments.
State home secretary Deba Prasad Misra, addressing participants, said, "Mock drills like these are crucial for swift responses to emergencies such as war or external aggression. Today's exercise has undoubtedly strengthened our state's preparedness."
Inspector general of home guards and civil defence, Arabinda Kalita, urged citizens to remain vigilant during emergencies and cooperate with authorities.
Officials from Assam Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire & emergency services, health department, and local civil defence volunteers actively participated in the exercise, with senior officials monitoring response efficiency and identifying areas for improvement.
