Lucknow: A drunk youth allegedly manhandled a police officer who was on duty in Sarojini Nagar area on Monday evening. The altercation, which was captured on video, has since gone viral on social media.
According to police sources, the youth was recklessly blowing his vehicle's horn, apparently trying to show off. When officers from the Amausi police post intervened to calm the situation, the youth responded aggressively, creating a public disturbance. The police are taking action in the matter.
According to witnesses, the man not only verbally abused the officers, but also physically manhandled one of them, grabbing him by the collar in full public view. The situation escalated further when he threatened the officer, saying, "I will get your uniform removed."
The police quickly overpowered the individual and took him into custody. In the viral video, a cop in uniform could be seen trying to overpower the drunk youth. A woman was also seen in the video attempting to help the youth when the cop took hold of him. The video also showed the man grabbing the cop's face as the officer tried to overpower him. "Taking cognisance of the case, Sarojini Nagar police has taken the accused youth into custody. Further legal action will be taken by registering a case under relevant sections for assaulting a public servant, misbehaving in public and disrupting law and order," said SHO Ramdev Ram Prajapati. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed as investigations are ongoing.
