AGRA: Following a court order, an FIR was filed against Agra’s Kheragarh SHO Indrajeet Singh and sub-inspectors Ibrahim Khan and Harendra Singh for not registering an alleged case of rape of a 16-year-old girl and attempted rape of her 13-year-old younger sister under the Pocso Act earlier this year.

These police officers also allegedly kept the older survivor under illegal detention for 36 hours at the police station without telling her family about it.

The FIR lodged at Kheragarh police station on Friday also named the two main accused in the rape case, Arbaz Ali and Aleem Ali (who are siblings), their father, Saleem Ali, and two unidentified men.

“The police officers have been charged under sections of Pocso Act as they kept a minor girl under illegal detention after rescuing her from Rajasthan’s Dholpur. They did not present her before the Child Welfare Committee within 24 hours, which was a violation of the Pocso Act. Besides, they allowed the rape survivor to take bath, thereby destroying crucial forensic evidence,” Chandra said.

DCP (West) Atul Sharma said, “To ensure a fair and independent probe, an officer from another police station is conducting the investigation.”

Asked why no punitive action has been taken, DCP Sharma said, “Only a case has been filed, nothing has been proved against them. We need to wait for the inquiry report. Action will be taken accordingly.”
