A software developer who joined Swiggy as a delivery driver after lay-off has let social media in on the struggles of gig work. Sharing the “survival story” on LinkedIn, Riyazuddin A detailed his “journey of resilience” in a farewell post for Swiggy – not the self-congratulatory VP kind, but an inspiring one.The techie recalled how his life fell on hard times after being let go by his previous employer. Riyazuddin’s job applications continuously faced rejections. Will bills still to pay, he decided to become a “Swiggy delivery partner.”The job profile was unrelenting, requiring him to brave the elements.“I still remember those early morning rides, the blazing afternoon sun, the pouring rain, and those late-night deliveries,” Riyazuddin said. His post included a screenshot suggesting his “total earnings” at one point were Rs. 65. It’s unclear whether this was for a single delivery, a day or his entire balance.Riyazuddin said he saw each delivery as a gradual reclamation of his “resilience”, which the job at Swiggy taught him, aside from keeping him afloat.“It was not easy—balancing hope, rejection, and the grind of the day-to-day. But those months as a Swiggy delivery partner gave me more than just financial support; they gave me invaluable lessons in patience, persistence, and humility. Every order I delivered made me stronger,” he said.“Today, I’m incredibly grateful to announce that I’ve started a new chapter with a new company. While I’m excited for this fresh start, I want to take a moment to bid a proper farewell to my time with Swiggy. I owe a lot to those tough, heartful memories of the streets, the customers, and the support Swiggy provided when I needed it most.”For anyone who feels they are stuck, Riyazuddin advises them to “hang in there”, as life doesn’t always go according to the plan, but still somehow brings out your mettle.

“What an inspiring story, Riyazuddin!,” Swiggy commented. “We’re grateful to have been part of your journey and are proud of the strength, persistence, and resilience you've shown. Wishing you all the success in your new chapter – onwards and upwards, indeed!”
