During the CBS News Vice Presidential Debate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz shared that his 17-year-old son, Gus Walz, had witnessed a shooting while playing volleyball at a community center. Responding to the same, JD Vance said, "Tim, I didn't know that your 17 year old witnessed a shooting. I'm sorry about that and I hope he's doing okay. Christ have mercy, it is awful."
MAGA Reactions -Many MAGA supporters are skeptical of the claim, arguing there is no evidence or media coverage to support it."I guarantee you Walz’s son did not actually witness a shooting. Walz would have milked that story to the media for years. There’s no record of it. It’s another lie," one person wrote on X.Another added, "So now Tim Walz wants us to believe that his son witnessed a shooting at a community center?! Why is there ZERO information about this supposed shooting?"
A third person commented, "OMG - Walz says his son witnessed a shooting while he was playing volleyball. Grok weighed in: there's no evidence to support that Tim Walz's son witnessed such an event."Another user wrote, "Walz said his son witnessed a shooting at a community center playing volleyball. How long until we find out he lied about that too?" What we know about the shooting - Gus Walz is a student at Central High School. In January 2023, students from the school witnessed a shooting at St. Paul's Jimmy Lee Recreation Center. An argument between a 16-year-old boy and an employee outside the center escalated when the worker shot the boy in the head and fled the scene. The shooter, identified as Exavir Dwayne Binford Jr., was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. The victim was left in critical condition and fighting for his life..@GovTimWalz just said his 17 year old son witnessed a shooting while playing volleyball.
