In a recent culinary experiment that has left social media buzzing, a food vlogger named Amar Sirohi showcased a bizarre dessert combo featuring strawberries, chocolate, and the beloved South Indian dish, idli. Known for pushing the boundaries of traditional flavours, street vendors in Bengaluru have now taken the classic idli in a new direction, much to the astonishment of food lovers. In a video shared by Sirohi, the vendor serves idlis filled with chocolate and topped with a colourful array of toppings, including strawberry jam, mango syrup, and lychee spread. To add an extra touch of sweetness, a drizzle of chocolate syrup and a sprinkle of colourful sprinkles complete the dish, which is served alongside a cup of strawberry ice cream.“I haven’t eaten any worse than this in Bengaluru. This is a very bad joke with idlis. It tastes salty, sweet, and sour at the same time,” Sirohi remarked after sampling the creation, dubbing it the “WEIRDEST Idli of South India” in his caption.

The video, initially shared in August, now went viral, amassing over 2 million views and eliciting a flood of reactions from social media users. Comments ranged from playful outrage to humour, with one user proclaiming, “Justice for Idli,” while another quipped, “Gun powder ke jagah sprinkler was Epic.”One user humorously added, “Idli is crying in the corner. Its combination is with coconut chutney or sambar. These days in Bangalore, everything is an experiment.” Another user jokingly remarked, “If people do virtually kill people then this reel is it!!!”This unusual idli combination is not an isolated incident, as food vendors in the region continue to experiment with traditional dishes. Other viral idli variations include idli ice cream, which combines the steamed rice cakes with sambar, and the ‘Dunki’ burger idli, featuring vegetables stuffed between two idlis, offered at a cafe in Mumbai.
