Chennai: Residents of Chennai can expect some relief from the unusual heatwave-like conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with light rain on Wednesday. The brief spell of rain is likely to provide a break from the intense heat, offering cooler conditions throughout the day. While the temperatures may still remain warm, the cloud cover and showers are expected to bring some respite to the city.
Weekly Weather Forecast for ChennaiFor the upcoming week in Chennai, temperatures are expected to range between 28 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius. From September 19 to 23, the weather will be predominantly partly cloudy. On September 19, 20, and 22, the skies will be partly cloudy, with temperatures peaking at around 38 degrees Celsius and dropping to 29 degrees Celsius at night. On September 21, temperatures will reach a high of 39 degrees Celsius, with partly cloudy skies throughout the day. By September 22 and 23, temperatures will slightly decrease to a high of 37 degrees Celsius, maintaining the partly cloudy conditions.
Unusual heatwave-like conditions have affected Tamil Nadu, with several districts experiencing daytime temperatures exceeding normal levels by 4-5 degrees Celsius. Madurai has already surpassed its all-time temperature record, while Chennai’s Meenambakkam weather station recorded 38.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, marking the hottest September temperature since 2018. Dry weather is expected to persist for a few more days due to moisture depletion and an atmosphere that is not favourable for cloud formation.
