What is Gaja Gamini walk?In the Kamasutra, elephants symbolise "unrestrained raw sexual power". It considers female elephants, or hastinis, the epitome of lustiness and vulgarity in demeanour. The 'Gaja Gamini' walk finds mention in the Mahabharata, where queens like Draupadi were referred to as Mada-gaja-gaminis which means women walking akin to cow-elephants in rut. Essentially, it is the walk that embodies a large yet graceful voluptuous woman. This hip-swinging gait of an elephant has inspired numerous artists and poets, notably MF Husain, as is seen in his art.

Interestingly, Aditi Rao Hydari is among the illustrious few to grace the screen with the captivating 'Gajagamini walk'. Iconic actresses Madhuri Dixit and Madhubala also showcased this mesmerising stride in their respective films. Madhuri Dixit left the audiences in awe with the 'Gajagamini walk' in MF Hussain's 2000 film 'Gaja Gamini', while Madhubala showcased it in the timeless classic 'Mughal-E-Azam' during the song 'Mohe Panghat Pe'.
