The headline new release is Doom: The Dark Ages, which joins as a day-one title on May 15.

Doom: The Dark Ages takes place in what is described as a "techno medieval" setting, featuring weapons such as a gun that fires skull fragments, as well as a flail and mace.

The game is a prequel to the 2016 Doom and Doom Eternal, showing how the Doom Slayer became a powerful demon killer.

Prior to the release of Doom: The Dark Ages, Microsoft will kick things off with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and the excellent Metal Slug Tactics on May 7.

"In a future knocked off its axis by corporate greed and stupidity, you have been made redundant and abandoned on the far edge of space with little gear and no safety net," reads the official description.

"You must explore every nook and cranny, collect dozens of upgrades, and turn over every mysterious alien rock if you want to get revenge on your former employer and return to Earth."

If you have no interest in Revenge of the Savage Planet, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed also releases on May 8.

The game is a mixture of RPG and beat-em-up, tasking the heroes with battling enemies on the streets.
