can gather grubby at any time of year, but most commonly in summer as a result of sweating. Being in the midst of autumn your pillows may be covered in yellow stains, but they are an easy fix for this dilemma.

For those grappling with less-than-pristine pillows, Carrie Higgins, home organisation and guru, has come forward with her top tip for reviving your pillows making them a bacteria and even mould-free zone.

The brains behind the blog , Carrie explained just how grimy pillows can get after nightly use: "I won't go into too much detail, but needless to say pillows are hotbeds of junk collected in the six to eight hours you spend on them every. Single. Night."

Yet, refreshing your yellowed pillows doesn't need to dent your wallet or your time, as per the household hack expert. Carrie advocates using simple for banishing unsightly stains.

The magic of vinegar may raise eyebrows, however, its natural acidity makes it a superstar at tackling organic stains from sweat to oily residues that accumulate on pillows.

Vinegar isn't just a stain-fighter though; it's also anti-bacterial and acts as a deodoriser, purging your pillowcases of bacteria and any unsavoury odours from the fabric.

Reflecting on her personal battle with dirty pillows, Carrie enthuses about the outcome: "As dirty and drooly as my pillows were, I didn't need to run any of them through a second time, the vinegar worked like magic!"

Before tossing your pillows into the machine, always double-check the care label - some types like memory foam won't take kindly to a spin in the washer.

When it comes to loading up, avoid cramming too many in; two is the magic number for a balanced wash.

Pour 250ml of white vinegar into the softener section of your machine, then add your usual detergent. Carrie recommends opting for an unscented variety.

After, spin those freshly laundered pillows to shake off extra dampness because nobody likes a soggy cushion.

Fresh out of the wash, they'll be "clean, white and stain-free", says Carrie. However, if pesky marks linger, simply run them through again.

Transition those pillows to a tumble dryer on a cushy low heat, adding wool dryer balls to plump them back up to their pre-snooze glory.

Alternatively, the great outdoors offers not only natural bleaching from the light but also tackles those last tough bits of muck.

Always ensure they're bone-dry before putting them back on your bed to sidestep any musty or mouldy mishaps.

After these steps, revel in the bliss of pristine pillows and dream easily on spotless bedding.

As Carrie puts it: "Now your pillows will be gorgeous and ready to show off!"
