Travel experts have revealed the stunning UK seaside village that looks like it has been plucked right out of Greece. With the UK experiencing hot weather this summer, Brits have the opportunity to enjoy everything the country has to offer on sunny staycations. One spot is the perfect dupe for a Greek island experience, experts have shared. Cornwall is a corner of the country known for its gorgeous beaches and seaside destinations, but one spot is perfect if you're looking for a slice of Greece this summer.
Park Holidays praised Polperro in Cornwall as a UK swap for Greece. The tiny fishing village is a sight for sore eyes, boasting turquoise waters that lap the shores of this rolling green landscape. Not only does it look like it was stolen from Greece, it appears to be frozen in time with its whitewashed cottages and small boats bobbing in the bay. Polperro is located on Cornwall's south coast, and its closest large town is Looe, situated 4.6 miles away.
"Polperro feels more like a tucked-away Greek island than a Cornish fishing village," the experts at Park Holidays said.
"On a sunny day, the sea turns an Aegean shade of turquoise and narrow, winding streets lead to cafés and shops with serious Santorini charm. Add in the scent of fish and chips instead of souvlaki, and you've got the perfect UK-Greek crossover."
Among the best things to do in Polperro is the South West Coast Path, a stunning piece of natural landscape that has blown visitors away. This is England's longest waymarked coastal path and passes through Polperro.
One reviewer, who walked from Talland Bay to Polperro, said of the attraction: "Passed some great cliff areas and secluded bays. There is a memorial to the fallen along the path and well worth a few minutes to read and reflect. It certainly is the location for it."
Another said: "Amazing views. Park up for the day at the top of Polperro, meander through its picture-perfect winding lanes and head out on the footpath to Talland Bay. There you will find a pretty little cove and cafe to rest a while before heading back to spend the rest of the afternoon back in Polperro. Plenty of lovely little shops, boat trips and excellent pubs and eateries."
Other attractions in and near the town include Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling & Fishing, Polperro Model Village Land of Legend & Model Railway, and Polperro Harbour and Headlands Walk.
Tourists have had wonderful things to say about Polperro in the past. One person said in a Tripadvisor review: "Stunning scenery, in a relaxing environment. Plenty of shops to mooch about it, lovely views on your walk down."
A second said: "I will start by saying that Polperro itself is out of this world. It can only be described as a quaint little fishing village with a harbour that offers boat trips to nearby Looe with stunning views aplenty. You can take a walk along the cliffs and beach, and the harbour has plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to stop in.
"One downside is that you have to park outside the harbour and take a 10-minute or so walk down towards the sea/bay. This isn't an unpleasant experience itself since the village is so beautiful that there is an abundance of sights to gasp at along the way. You can even hire a tuk-tuk to ride you into the harbour, should you not fancy the walk."
A third said: "What a beautiful village with a lovely harbour and great views. I was so glad I listened to the recommendation to go there. Had a lovely walk whilst taking in all the scenery. A must-do if in the area."
