George Baldock's final message to supporters over the summer has resurfaced following his tragic death on Wednesday.
The defender passed away at the age of 31, with reports claiming that his body was at his property in Greece. Police are investigating the cause of his death.
Baldock made over 200 appearances for Sheffield United over the course of seven seasons at the club before leaving the Bramall Lane outfit to pen a three-year deal with Panathinaikos.
The former MK Dons star left the Blades after playing a key role in helping the club to the Premier League on two occasions, and his performances at right-back during that time saw him become a fans' favourite during that time.
Baldock's goodbye message to Sheffield United supporters has now re-emerged following the shock news of his passing, where he did not shy away from thanking fans for their continued support.
He wrote on the Blades' X account in May: "To all you Sheffield United fans, it's a huge thank-you from me.
"You've been absolutely amazing. Your support has been so much more than I ever expected. Like I said, you're the best around. Keep supporting the team and the staff and hopefully the club can get back to where we all want it to be.
"I leave here as a massive fan of the club. Good luck and thank you."
Tributes have poured in since the news broke of Baldock's passing, with clubs up and down the country sending their condolences to the Greece international's family. Sheffield United's statement read: "Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player George Baldock.
"The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with supporters, staff and teammates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him. The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George's family and friends."
Baldock, of Greek descent, made his full debut for the Greece national team in their 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland in June 2022. Greece are set to play at Wembley Stadium on Thursday evening, with the Greek Football Federation requesting to UEFA that black armbands be worn to pay their respects to Baldock.
