Splatters of food particles, baked-on grease and grime tends to coat the inner window of an oven glass door. While there are plenty of commercial oven cleaners on the market, some people tend to prefer a natural cleaning solution. Concerns could amount about the chemicals present in commercial cleaners to the expense of having all different types of cleaners in the home.

Most may consider white vinegar and/or baking soda when it comes to cleaning the oven with natural products, but there is another alternative. Taking to Mumsnet, one busy mum has recommended the use of soda crystals, a non-toxic cleaning agent.

The mum stated that she "always" has a bag of soda crystals in her home for cleaning purposes - and she keeps on finding ways to use them.

"They are great [at] unclogging [the] bath plug hole," she wrote. "Then, a few weeks ago, our washing machine had become a bit smelly, so... I did a hot wash with crystals. Ta-da! No more smelly machine."

Then her attention turned to the oven that was "overdue for a clean". The mum posted: "I looked at the horrid, yucky shelves, thinking, 'how are we going to get those clean?'"

"So, I put a large tray of soda crystals and boiling water on the side and put oven shelves in. I can see before my eyes the oven grease just dissolving."

Soda crystals are highly alkaline meaning they are easily able to disintegrate grease.

While the stains on the oven racks can be tackled by using hot water and soda crystals in a kitchen sink, the inside of the oven requires a different approach.

It's recommended to create a thick paste by mixing together warm water and soda crystals.

Then applying the mixture onto the stained oven parts (avoiding the heating element) and letting the solution sit for about half hour before wiping away with a damp sponge.
