Coronation Street returned to ITV with fresh insight into the Weatherfield residents, and one character in particular left viewers concerned. Asha Alahan (played by Tanisha Gorey) sparked major worry during Tuesday's episode (August 26), and seemingly began to spiral after coming against immense pressure from her job and family. While she felt anxious about her brother Aadi (Adam Hussein) relocating to India, Asha was still reeling from being brutally attacked during her shift as a paramedic, while struggling with the concept of seeing people die while on the job.
During the episode, she suffered a near panic attack after coming across her brother's crashed car. She ran out of the ambulance and refused to be held back. Aadi and their father, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin), eventually appeared and confirmed they were safe and sound, as the car had been stolen from the mechanics, yet Asha struggled to control her nerves and opted to drink away her anxieties. After this resulted in her stumbling home, one viewer predicted: "Asha will be a homeless alcoholic begging on the shopping parade next."
One concerned viewer shared: "I hope we're not heading to a suicide attempt from Asha. I fear this might be going." A third noticed: "Asha been on the bottle all day winos," (sic) as another remarked: "Asha is mixing the grain with the grape. Never ends well. #corrie."
"Hope Asha doesn't end up being an alcoholic.... #Corrie" said one fan after witnessing the paramedic down her sorrows at the Rovers Return Inn with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
During their conversation, which carried on at Asha's house, she finally opened up about her attack and was instructed by Lisa to report the incident instead of holding in her emotions.
This came after the DS said: "You know our jobs, they're really hard and we don't often get valued or appreciated, I get it." After some hesitation, Asha revealed: "I was trying to help her, she was drunk, she wouldn't listen, and she just kept shouting. Then she scratched me."
The medic then rolled up her sleeves to reveal the deep cut and continued: "The she said rubbish, all the usual stuff," before brushing off the incident with "whatever."
Asha added: "And then she spat at me. I was trying to help her, and she spat at me," Lisa, shaking her head in disbelief, remarked. That's disgusting; you know it's a criminal offence.
After confessing that she hadn't reported it, Lisa urged: "Asha you have to report this." Coronation Street airs from 8pm on Monday to Friday on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
