Donald Trump has fumbled through a "painful" interview concerning cryptocurrency, repeatedly sidestepping the topic. In an Twitter Spaces interview at Mar-A-Lago, the former president talked about supplanting the 'old' financial system with cryptocurrency, reports the-Express.com.

Flaunting possession of over $1 million in cryptocurrency and reaping $300,000 from sales of branded Bibles, Trump engaged with social media personality Farokh Sarmad. Quizzed about the significance of crypto adoption leadership by America, Trump declared: "It's so important. It's crypto. It's AI. It's so many other things. AI needs tremendous electricity capabilities beyond anything I ever heard."

Determined to position the US as the "crypto capital of the planet," Trump acknowledged his reliance on teenage son Barron, who mysteriously was absent. "Barron knows so much about this," affirmed Trump.

"Barron is a young guy. He's got four wallets or something. I'm saying 'explain this to me.' He knows it so well. And Eric and Don. I have a lot of respect for them."

Confronted with pointed queries, Trump adroitly pivoted to topics like the high electrical demands of AI or Chinas pervasive influence, as reported by Express US. He even paralleled cryptocurrency comprehension to learning languages, drawing from familial experiences.

He remarked: "It's sort of like a language. I have a beautiful granddaughter, Ivanka's daughter, Arabella. She speaks perfect Chinese. Their other two children speak perfect Chinese. From a nanny who was from China."

The former President didn't mince words when lambasting the current leadership, slamming the Biden/Harris administration as "extremely hostile" towards cryptocurrencies, which stands in stark contrast to his previous view when he dismissed digital currencies as a scam. "My attitude is if we don't do it, China will. We have to be the biggest and best," Trump declared.

On the subject of crypto's future, he acknowledged its teething troubles, but underscored its immense potential by saying: "The value of this whole thing is bigger than the top 20 corporations. The numbers are gigantic. It suffers from some credibility lapses. It's very young and growing. If we don't do it other countries will do it. We have the advantage because it's me, I do believe in it."

Detractors didn't waste time in scrutinizing Trump's assertions, with one critic cutting to the chase: "Trump doesn't know a damn thing about crypto and it's painfully obvious."

A sentiment echoed by another, tinged with disenchantment: "If this whole Trump space is just crypto grifting after a 2nd assassination attempt is absolutely sad and pathetic."

Meanwhile, another sceptic weighed in: "Let's be honest Trump doesn't even know what crypto is or why he's being asked to shill it."

Regardless of initially spurning cryptocurrency while in office, Trump appears to have reconsidered, with his campaign now seemingly endorsing the idea and pushing for the creation of a so-called "crypto army."

Speaking during a live stream with Adin Ross, the 78 year old billionaire expressed his thoughts: "And I know a lot of very good people that are really into that world and into that market. They're smart, they're good people, and they think it's going to be very beneficial."

In Trump's earlier financial revelation, he estimated that his social media endeavour, Truth Social, fell between a valuation of $5 million to $25 million. This year, however, he has slapped a valuation of over $50 million on the Trump Media and Technology Group Corp.

Trump has also put forth the idea that the US government needs to form a strategic Bitcoin reserve and has vowed to battle any initiatives to create a Federal Reserve-controlled Central Bank Digital Currency, essentially a digital form of currency issued by the central bank for the public's use.
