Legendary Doraemon Voice Actress Nobuyo Oyama Passes Away at 90

Renowned Japanese voice actress Nobuyo Oyama, best known for voicing the beloved character Doraemon, has passed away at the age of 90, her agency confirmed.

Oyama was the iconic voice behind Doraemon, the blue robot cat from the future, for 25 years until 2005. Her distinctive, raspy voice brought life to the character's magical world, filled with gadgets like the "Anywhere Door" that could transport users to any place. Her portrayal of Doraemon left an indelible mark on generations of fans.

According to her talent agency, Oyama "passed away on September 29 due to old age." The funeral was held privately, with close family members in attendance.

Despite her retirement, Doraemon continues to air as one of the longest-running anime series in Japan and remains popular across Asia and beyond. Though another voice actress took over the role almost two decades ago, for many, Oyama's voice remains the definitive sound of the beloved robot cat.

In the Doraemon series, the robot cat travels back in time to assist a boy named Nobita, helping him navigate everyday challenges with a mix of humor, wisdom, and futuristic gadgets. The character, created by Fujiko F. Fujio, first appeared in manga in 1969 and quickly became a staple on both television and cinema screens in the years that followed.
