In Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Asha Nautiyal as its candidate for the upcoming Kedarnath Assembly by-election. The Central Election Committee confirmed Nautiyal’s nomination on Sunday, with BJP National General Secretary and Headquarters-in-Charge Arun Singh verifying the selection. This by-election aims to fill a vacant seat in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly.

Earlier, the Congress Party declared its candidate for the same by-election, nominating former MLA Manoj Rawat. The announcement came after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge officially approved Rawat’s candidature for the Kedarnath seat.

Scheduled for November 20, the Kedarnath by-election will see its votes counted on November 23, along with votes from other Assembly and Parliamentary by-polls across India.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed optimism about the BJP's performance in Kedarnath as well as the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. CM Dhami said he was confident that voters would support a “double-engine government” to continue promoting progress under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He added that the BJP anticipates a positive response from voters in Kedarnath and other states due to their focus on development initiatives.

On October 15, the Election Commission of India (ECI) released the by-election schedule for 48 Assembly seats and two Parliamentary seats, set to be conducted in two phases. The first phase on November 13 includes 47 Assembly seats and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala, with the second phase scheduled for November 20, covering the Kedarnath Assembly seat in Uttarakhand and the Nanded parliamentary seat in Maharashtra. Counting for all by-polls is planned for November 23.
