Shubman Gill’s remarkable run in England, including a century in the first Test and a double century in the second, has left many wondering about the sudden transformation in his overseas performance. Yuvraj Singh recently shared the secret behind Gill’s improvement during a conversation with his father, Yograj Singh.
Yograj revealed in an interview that Gill had been working hard to fix an issue with his right hand, which had affected his batting earlier. Yuvraj informed him that this problem has now been resolved. Yograj said, “The way Gill is playing cover drives shows his right hand is fully fit now. He’s batting like a magician.”
In addition to this, Gill corrected his foot position. Previously, a gap between his feet and bat made him vulnerable to inswinging deliveries. Closing this gap has strengthened his defense and helped him face incoming balls more confidently.
Gill’s efforts paid off spectacularly at Edgbaston, where he scored 269 runs — the highest score by any Indian captain in England. He also became the first Indian captain to hit a double century on English soil. Thanks to his innings, India scored 587 runs, putting England under pressure at 77 for 3 wickets in their first innings. Team India now aims to wrap up the match and secure a strong win.
