The incident took place in a village under the jurisdiction of Maniyari police station. The husband, identified as Garibnath, works as an autorickshaw driver and spends long hours on the road to provide for his family. He says he never imagined that behind his back, his wife was nurturing a romantic relationship with his much younger cousin brother. Whenever the young man visited, he would casually joke about running away with her. Everyone laughed it off, never thinking he meant it seriously. But that ‘joke’ turned into a reality—twice.

According to Garibnath, his wife not only ran away with the younger man but also took along cash and jewelry kept at home. A few days before the incident, she had gone to her maternal home on some pretext, from where she never returned. The husband has now filed a formal complaint at the local police station, and the police have registered a case and started a search for the absconding duo.

What adds to the disgrace is that the woman had previously eloped with the same brother-in-law but returned after being persuaded by family members. This time, however, she left for good. Garibnath says that while he was working hard day and night to support the family, his wife was busy rekindling her affair with his cousin behind closed doors. The two children of the couple, who are now grown up, are said to be deeply disturbed and humiliated by their mother’s actions.

The husband also revealed that discussions were underway for the marriage of one of their sons when this scandal unfolded. Just as the family was preparing for new beginnings, the wife’s decision to run away with a younger man shattered their stability.
