Premier League forced to halt VAR in Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest

The Premier League have confirmed that VAR will not be in use until further notice in Tottenham's match with due to a fire alarm at Stockley Park.

In an update issued less than five minutes later by the Sky Sports commentary team, it was confirmed that those within Stockley Park were back in their positions, meaning the interruption of service lasted just minutes.

This was confirmed in a follow up post, which read: "VAR is now back up and running."

Fortunately there were no major incidents which needed reviewing during the brief outage. VAR was called upon earlier in the evening, though, to rule out a goal for the visitors.

Chris Wood thought he'd doubled Forest's lead only for his strike to be double-checked. And the Premier League confirmed that semi-automated determined the New Zealand striker was offside.

This was confirmed in a social media post, which read: "VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Wood was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed."

Forest went on to seal a huge 2-1 victory to boost their hopes of qualifying for Europe next term. Richarlison's late goal was not enough to salvage anything for Spurs, who are languishing in 16th.

The result will pile even more pressure on Ange Postecoglou, whose position is likely to come under threat at the end of the season due to Tottenham's poor performance in the Premier League.
