Crystal Palace know that the summer transfer window represents their final chance to cash in on Marc Guehi – and their stance plays into the hands of Liverpool.
Guehi has entered the final 12 months of his current contract with Palace and has made it clear that he won’t sign a new one. The England defender has attracted interest from rival Premier League sides for some time and could finally leave the south London club.
Newcastle pushed hard to try and sign Guehi last summer, but ultimately backed out because they were unwilling to pay Palace’s £70million asking price. With his contract expiring in less than a year, Palace have reduced their valuation, but only to around £50m.
Liverpool are not the only interested party, with Mirror Football reporting on Monday that Tottenham have made it clear they are also in the running. Spurs bid £70m back in January for the centre-back, only to see it rejected by Palace, and are ready to return this summer.

First-choice pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven struggled with injuries last season and Romero has been linked with Atletico Madrid this summer.
Spurs are potentially more likely to meet Palace’s £50m valuation, with Liverpool about to take their spending to near £300m once the £79m signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt is over the line.
Now. The Athletic report David Ornstein has given an update on the situation from a Palace perspective, suggesting they are ready to “cash in”.

He : “We know Liverpool are keen on him at the right price. Reports today suggest Tottenham, who made a bid for him in January, don’t forget, are still in the mix too.
“I think Palace would be looking to cash in rather than face losing him for free next summer, but he’s got the power in his hands. He’s very happy at Crystal Palace, by the sounds of it, and I don’t think he’d be afraid to go to the end of his deal. It doesn’t seem like a new contract is on the agenda.
“And I think Marc Guehi, with total respect to Crystal Palace, is going to be playing at the very top of Champions League football, whether it’s sooner or later, and so, yeah, you suspect this is going to be one of the stories of the upcoming weeks of the transfer window.”
Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m this summer. Meanwhile, there are also doubts surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate, who has been strongly linked with Real Madrid after rejecting the offer of a new contract with Liverpool.
