With a baby on one hip and a toddler running around her feet, it’s clear that Jorgie Porter is happy but being kept on her toes when we sit down to chat. “My social life is a two-year-old and a seven-month-old, so I love getting to chat with adults,” the Hollyoaks actress says, laughing.
Jorgie, 37, who plays Theresa McQueen in the soap, is clearly a doting mum to son Forest and daughter Peony, who was born last December. She shares them withfiancé Ollie Piotrowski, but, as she admits, it hasn’t been an easy transition. Here, the chatty soap startells OK! how she’s striking the right balance with her little ones, why she’s passionate about showing every side of motherhood and why she can’t wait to get back to work...

Jorgie, how’s life as a mum of two?
Oh, it’s horrendous going from one to two, nobody tells you that! We are honestly in the trenches of war. It is extremely different, I’m not gonna lie. I think nobody prepares you for the baby growing up and you miss all the checkpoints because you’re focusing on them both. It’s like, “Oh, she’s eating now,” whereas with Forest we were celebrating every moment. It’s heartbreaking in a way, because I don’t want to miss a thing when I love them so much.
How is little Peony doing?
Dare I say, she’s been a very easy baby so far. I haven’t noticed a massive difference between having a boy and a girl just yet. I’m quite lucky that I’ve got happy babies, but Forest is definitely a tad dramatic, like me. He’s a bit bossy and so
am I – but you can’t have two bosses, so I’m navigating that.
You definitely share the good and bad sides of parenthood on social media. Is that important to you?
Oh absolutely, because when you’re a mum – or a parent – at home on your own and you’re thinking, “Why on earth is my baby crying so much no matter what I try?”, you share it and your followers support you. Or they’ll say, “That happens to me, too.” I realised I’m not alone.
I love talking about it with other mums because you do encourage each other. You might feel like you’re not doing a good job but, really, everyone is going through the same thing.

And what’s Ollie like as a dad?
He’s brilliant. It’s a bit annoying because I’ll be with Forest all day, then he’ll still say he wants Daddy. I’m like, “I’ve been looking after you, mate!” It’s brilliant that he’s so good though, and so involved. He’s got a 10-year-old with a previous partner, so he knows more than I do about certain things. He’s more comfortable because it’s not his first rodeo.
Do you get any “me time” away from the kids?
Gosh, not much. Now that my baby is getting older I do more, but in the newborn stage there was absolutely no way. I grab an hour or two and get my nails or hair done, but then I think, “What do I do now?” You don’t really relax because then you panic about what the babies are up to and if they’re okay.
Would you have more kids?
No, we’re good now. We have definitely decided that’s it. Ollie is getting the snip – he needs to do it. For me, personally, if there was another one, I’d be like, “There’s no time for anything. I don’t want to miss any more moments than I already do with my two.” So no, we are happy and very blessed.
Will you be returning to Hollyoaks soon?
Yes, when my maternity is finished I’m going back. Something really special is happening when I go back, which I can’t give away, but it’s exciting. When I went back after having Forest I was like, “Oh, my God, this is so exciting!” as I hadn’t hung out with adults in forever, but this time I’m going to pull back on the excitement. I feel like I go into a different life on set and don’t talk about the kids as much. It’s like a double life.
You’re taking part in the Hollyoaks 30th anniversary tour this autumn...
And I’m so excited about it. I thought it was going to be a little sit-down panel but now I’ve been told I can dance on stage. So in my mind I’m like, “Oh, this is my show now!” I’m doing it withGary [Lucy], Ashley [Taylor Dawson] and Nick [Pickard], which is great because we bounce off each other so well. I’ve known Nick since I first started on Hollyoaks – every day with him is great. We’re gonna chat about backstage things that have happened because we’re celebrating 30 years of the show. We’ll talk about all the best bits, the funniest bits. I’ve got thousands of them.
Any secret nerves about getting back to work?
I never have nerves. Performing doesn’t scare me. Anything to do with talking is fine with me, funnily enough. It’s going to be brilliant, I can sense it.
The Hollyoaks 30th Anniversary tour will play four special dates in Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham and London in October. Get tickets at bit.ly/HollyoaksLiveTour
