Grigor Dimitrov's Hollywood girlfriend said he was "a winner" and his Wimbledon heartbreak will "make him even stronger" as he was denied a stunning win over Jannik Sinner by injury on Centre Court.
The Bulgarian, previously a semi-finalist at SW19, produced some stellar tennis to leave Sinner facing an early exit. Dimitrov took a two-set lead on Sunday night and looked to have his Italian opponent on the ropes before injury forced him to retire.
Dimitrov received medical treatment for a pectoral injury that was clearly leaving him in major discomfort, but he ultimately couldn't carry on and Sinner advanced at his expense. It left him in tears as he was denied a spot in the last eight.
His partner Eiza Gonzalez made her admiration for the 34-year-old known as she wrote on social media: "Love of my life. I couldn't be more proud of you. You are BEYOND outstanding. This is just a moment that will pass and make you even stronger.
"But watching you today alongside the world was a reminder of who YOU are. You're a winner. We all saw it. And you'll do it again. I love you @grigordimitrov."

The couple went public with their relationship in May and Gonzalez has described Dimitrov as "the man of my dreams". Gonzales, who is also a singer, has starred in the likes of Fountain of Youth, Ambulance, Godzilla vs Kong and Mr & Mrs Smith in her acting career.
Dimitrov has only made it to the last eight of a Grand Slam three times in the last five years as he runs out of time to make an impact on the tennis court. Sinner continues his pursuit of a first Wimbledon final but maintained he took no pride in advancing.
He said: "I don't take this as a win at all, this is just an unfortunate moment for all of us to witness. He has struggled in the last Grand Slams with injuries a lot, so seeing him again with this injury is very tough. We all saw by his reaction how much he cares about the sport. He is one of the hardest-working players on tour and it is very unfortunate."
The three-time Grand Slam champion also added: "Seeing him in this position, if there was a chance for him to play in the next round he would deserve it. Mostly, I hope he has a speedy recovery."
The result means that Sinner has become only the ninth man in the Open era to reach seven consecutive Grand Slam quarter-finals. Prior to Sunday he had also been in stunning form - he made a record-equalling start to the tournament, losing just 17 games across three impressive performances - the joint-fewest in the Open era.
