Daniel Ricciardo confirmed "my racing days are behind me" as he announced his retirement from motor racing. The Aussie also confirmed he has taken on a new role with Ford, joining the giant carmaker as a global ambassador for its motorsport arm Ford Racing.
Ricciardo won eight races during a long Formula 1 career which also saw him visit the podium 32 times. He was mooted as a potential World champion but never lived up to that tag and his career trajectory took a turn after he chose to leave Red Bull.
The Australian had unspectacular spells with Renault and McLaren before dropping off the grid. He was picked up again by Red Bull who he joined as a reserve driver and got back onto the grid with junior team Racing Bulls, but failed to do enough to earn a promotion to the top outfit and, last September, was dropped.
