Great British Bake OffwinnerMatty Edgell has announced he’s expecting his first child with wife Lara and fans couldn’t be happier.
The 2023 champ, 29, shared the adorable news on Instagram, posting a babyonesie with “born in 2025” alongside a scan and a mini blanket reading “Little WHU fan” - a sweet nod to his love forWest Ham United.
“We can’t wait to meet you,” he wrote, adding a white heart emoji.
Fellow Bake Off stars and fans quickly flooded the comments. Alison Hammondled the well-wishes, writing: “Congratulations, how exciting.”
Cristy Sharp who came fourth in Matty’s series added: “Oh Matty, Lara!!!! I’m so happy for you guys!! Amazing news! ❤️❤️❤️”

Matty’s bond with Alisonwas a major talking point during his time on the show, with viewers constantly teasing that the pair were secretly besties. One fan joked: “Alison and Matty are in love and I cannot blame them,” while another wrote: “Alison coming on to Matty is better than any dating show we’ve ever watched.”
The PE teacher-turned-baking star was crowned winner of series 14 after beating Dan Hunter and Josh Smalley in the final and days later, he announced his engagement to Lara.
He popped the question during a romantic getaway to Sorrento, Italy, calling it one of the “happiest moments of his life.”
The couple tied the knot in May 2024, with Matty writing: “Signed, sealed and delivered, she can’t turn back now! We had the best time celebrating our special day with the people we love the most… P.S. How stunning does my wife look?”
Matty previously revealed it was Lara who encouraged him to apply for Bake Off, admitting he felt he “wasn’t good enough” to go for it.
Throughout the series, he called himself “the official underdog” having learned most of his baking skills from his nan.

“I don’t know what to say… everyone said you should go on Bake Off and I thought it was a throwaway comment and never really listened to it,” he said after winning. “I never thought I would be on the show let alone win it!”
Before Bake Off fame, Matty worked as a PE and science teacher in Cambridgeshire, and said his students were “impressed” when the show aired.
“The students at school were a bit impressed… I know they will think it’s cool that I have won but at the same time, they will be really surprised.”
Since then, he’s swapped school for baking leaving his “much-loved” teaching job to follow his dreams.
“Bake Off gave me an opportunity to explore an avenue that was so far out of the equation,” he said. “If I didn’t take it, I would forever look back and think what if?”
Now, with a baby on the way and his career rising, it’s safe to say Matty’s next chapter is already off to a sweet start.
