In a rare moment of cross-party unity, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday expressed strong support for the Indian armed forces following Operation Sindoor, India’s precision strike on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“We are proud of our armed forces. Jai Hind!” Rahul Gandhi posted on X (formerly Twitter), hours after the military action was confirmed.

The missile strikes, targeting bases of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, were launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed, including one Nepali national.

Kharge: “Congress Stands with the Nation”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed Gandhi’s sentiment and lauded the military for its bravery and precision.

“We are extremely proud of our Indian armed forces who destroyed terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. We appreciate their courage and determination,” said Kharge.

He reiterated that the Congress Party fully supports the government in any firm action taken to combat cross-border terrorism, affirming that India's anti-terror policy will remain uncompromising.

“Since the Pahalgam attack, Congress has stood with the army and the government. National unity and solidarity are of paramount importance at this moment,” Kharge said in a social media statement.

Bipartisan Endorsement of Military Precision

Indian officials confirmed that the nine targeted sites included the Jaish-e-Mohammed HQ in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba HQ in Muridke, both in Punjab, Pakistan. Intelligence inputs confirmed these as key operational bases for orchestrating attacks in India.

A spokesperson from the Pakistani armed forces acknowledged in an interview with the BBC that Bahawalpur and Muridke were targeted in the operation.

Measured Yet Resolute Response

India clarified that the military action was deliberate and restrained, ensuring that no Pakistani military installations were targeted. The strike, carried out from within Indian borders, emphasized India’s intent to counter terrorism, not provoke war.

The Congress leadership's backing of Operation Sindoor marks a significant message of political consensus in the face of external threats.
