Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash prize of ₹10 lakh for 14-year-old cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made history by becoming the youngest player ever to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Vaibhav, playing for the Rajasthan Royals, electrified fans at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday night with a blistering 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans. Reaching his century in only 35 balls — the second-fastest in IPL history — the teenager crushed 11 sixes and 7 fours, powering his team to victory and etching his name into the record books.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar personally called the young cricketer to congratulate him and later posted on social media:
“Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in IPL history. His hard work and talent have made him a beacon of hope for Indian cricket.”
The CM also recalled a meeting with Vaibhav and his father in 2024, saying, “Everyone is proud of him. I wished him a bright future then, and I do again today.”
Vaibhav’s family in Bihar is ecstatic. His uncle, Rajiv Suryavanshi, called the feat historic, while cousin Vishal Kumar said, “We hope to see him play for India very soon.”
Top political leaders including Tejashwi Yadav and Union Minister Chirag Paswan also praised Vaibhav’s exceptional talent, calling his IPL debut a “magnificent start” to a bright future.
The teen’s rise is now being seen as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across Bihar and the country.
