Curious case of Sukhu ka samosa: How snacks for the Himachal CM sparked a CID probe

Send Push
Samosas and cakes intended for Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu were served to his security staff instead. This mix-up, which took place during the CM’s visit to the CID headquarters on October 21, escalated into a significant controversy, prompting a CID probe. According to PTI, the investigation deemed this incident as an "anti-government" act.

How the mix-up happened
The incident began when three boxes of snacks were ordered from the Radisson Blue Hotel in Lakkar Bazaar to be served to CM Sukhu during his visit.

According to the enquiry report by a deputy SP, an IG-ranked officer initially asked a sub-inspector (SI) to arrange snacks for the CM. The SI then directed an assistant SI (ASI) and a head constable to collect the food.

Upon retrieving the boxes, the ASI and head constable informed the SI. However, when they asked the tourism department staff whether the snacks were specifically for the CM, they were reportedly told that the items were not part of the CM's menu.

Communication breakdown and delivery confusion
Only the SI who had ordered the snacks knew they were intended for CM Sukhu. The assistant SI and head constable, after delivering the boxes, handed them over to a lady inspector. Unaware of their importance, she directed the boxes to the Mechanical Transport (MT) section, where refreshments for other staff members are typically handled. This led to the snacks being given to the CM’s security staff instead.

CID report highlights alleged intentions
The CID probe highlighted the mishap as potentially intentional. A senior CID official mentioned in a note that the individuals involved seemed to act "anti-CID" and "anti-government," which prevented the items from reaching the CM. The report added that all personnel involved acted according to "their own agenda," raising concerns about intentional misconduct.

Multiple hands, multiple missteps
In total, the refreshments were handled by multiple people before finally reaching the CM’s security staff. The CID’s internal report has now raised questions about potential motives, indicating that further scrutiny of the involved officers’ actions may be underway.
