As Moo Deng's popularity skyrockets, Thailand's baby hippo endures harassment from zoo visitors

A baby pygmy hippo named Moo Deng at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand has recently faced issues due to her rising popularity. Moo Deng, a two-month-old hippo, has caught global attention with her cute antics. However, some visitors have been throwing items like bananas, shellfish, and water at her, raising concerns about her well-being.

The zoo’s director, Narongwit Chodchoi, has announced possible legal action against those disturbing Moo Deng. “These behaviours are not only cruel but also dangerous,” Chodchoi stated. To protect Moo Deng, the zoo has limited viewing times to weekends and restricted each session to five minutes. The zoo has also increased security measures, including installing cameras to monitor visitor actions.

Moo Deng became well-known after her birth on July 10, when the zoo introduced her to the public. Despite the large support from fans, the new measures aim to ensure her safety. The zoo hopes Moo Deng’s story will spread awareness about wildlife conservation efforts.
