New Delhi: The Delhi Police have requested All India Institute of Medical Science ( AIIMS) to evaluate if Samir Modi sustained injuries as he has alleged at a Godfrey Phillips board meeting on May 30, people aware of the matter told ET.

The police wrote to AIIMS earlier this month requesting if it could constitute a medical board to evaluate an injury on Modi’s right index finger that he claimed was broken by his mother Bina Modi’s personal security officer at the board meeting, they said.

The personal security officer has contested Samir Modi’s claims and filed a counter application in court denying any assault.

Samir Modi is locked in a legal battle with his mother over the distribution of the inheritance of his father, the late KK Modi. In a recent interview, Bina Modi told ET she wanted to protect her husband’s legacy and was not agreeable to a sale of the group’s businesses. Samir Modi was removed from the board of Godfrey Phillips in August though his mother denies any role in the happenings.

The Delhi Police declined to comment when contacted, citing the matter was subjudice.

The police have requested AIIMS to evaluate if Samir Modi had sustained an injury on his right index finger and also to assess if the injury took place on May 30 as has been alleged, people cited above said.

It has also sought the opinion of AIIMS to understand if such an injury could take place by twisting of the index finger as has been alleged by Modi.

The police have also noted that it found a discrepancy on the dates because a discharge summary from Apollo Hospital filed with it was dated May 31, 2024, but a similar discharge summary filed with Godfrey Phillips India was dated May 31, 2019. Apollo Hospitals had later said the summary with a past date was a typo.

"We are encouraged that the investigation is moving forward", said Samir Modi's office.
