A class 7 student in Agra was allegedly blackmailed by a group of teenagers after they recorded a private video of her.
The 12-year-old girl, who is the daughter of a local businessman, started stealing money from her own home fearing consequences. She took over Rs 6.8 lakh within a month to meet her perpetrators' demands, reported TOI.
The family became suspicious when the noticed the money missing from their home. Initially, they suspected a domestic help and kept a close watch. However, they found their daughter to be the "culprit". Upon questioning her, she broke down and narrated the her situation to her parents who reported the matter to police on Monday evening.
DCP Agra, Suraj Rai, told TOI, "After a complaint by the girl's family at MM Gate police station against three teenagers -- all minors (aged 15-16) -- and one adult for blackmailing and extorting money, an FIR was registered under BNS section 308 (1) (extortion). Accused had started blackmailing her a month ago. The matter is being investigated in detail, and the girl's statement will be recorded before the magistrate soon. Both the victim and the accused are from the same locality."
A senior cop said, "The girl had developed a friendship with one of the accused teenagers from her school. As they grew closer, the 15-year-old boy shared this information with his friends, who then proceeded to record an objectionable video of the girl without her consent. The teens then began to blackmail her, threatening to share the video and some pictures with others, if she didn't comply with their monetary demands."
"Investigations are also on to find out if she was subject to any other form of harassment. We're trying to find out more about the extorted money. Further action will be initiated once preliminary investigations are complete," he added.
