The world of Westeros is returning, but this time with a humbler story and two unlikely heroes. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the latest spin-off from the Game of Thrones universe, takes fans back to the age of knights, squires, and forgotten dragons. The first trailer of the series was dropped on October 9, offering a glimpse into the journey of Dunk and Egg, a tale set a century before the events of Game of Thrones. The show is all set to release in 2026 in India.

The highly anticipated prequel will premiere on HBO Max on January 18, 2026, while fans in India can stream it from January 19 on JioHotstar. The series made its grand debut at New York Comic Con, where author George R.R. Martin, showrunner Ira Parker, and actors Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell unveiled the trailer. Described by Martin as a “tale that became legend,” the show expands on his beloved Dunk and Egg novellas, bringing to life a lesser-known but significant chapter in Westeros history.
Set roughly a hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms unfolds during the rule of the Targaryen dynasty, when the Iron Throne was still secure and dragons were a fading memory. The story follows Ser Duncan the Tall, also known as Dunk (played by Peter Claffey), a brave yet modest young knight, and his squire Egg (played by Dexter Sol Ansell). Their journey takes them across Westeros, beginning at the Ashford tourney.
The trailer shows Dunk’s transformation from a simple squire to a true knight who believes in protecting the weak and standing up for justice. Alongside him, Egg’s curiosity and innocence bring light-hearted moments to the story, as their bond grows stronger through the trials they face together.
Cast, episodes and more details
The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, and Ross Anderson. It is co-written by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, and co-directed by Adina Smith and Owen Harris.
Unlike House of the Dragon or Game of Thrones, which featured sprawling conflicts and dynastic wars, this series will tell smaller, character-driven tales about bravery, friendship, and moral dilemmas. The first season will consist of six episodes, each around 30 minutes long, releasing weekly from January 18 to February 25, 2026 in India.
With its more intimate scale and nostalgic tone, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises to take fans back to the roots of knighthood. Stay tuned for more details!
