Rishabh Pant Not Alone! IPL 2025 Stars Failing to Justify Their Price Tags

Send Push

Heavy criticisms for his poor performances in IPL 2025 are leveled against Rishabh Pant. While he has shown reasonable captaincy skills as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), his batting has been a huge disappointment. In a recent match, Pant was sent down to bat at number seven, highlighting his struggles at the crease.

Pant, signed in the IPL 2025 mega auction for a whopping ₹27 crore, was all the talk of the town. Yet, he is not the only one under the scanner. This season has seen quite a few stars under the hammer fail to deliver expectations. If the 2025 edition was the gala for some of those highest price signings falling short of their form and consistency, let us dive into some more high-profile names that have so far failed to justify their price.

  Venkatesh Iyer:

KKR's grand gesture of re-signing Venkatesh Iyer for ₹23.75 crore has gone a bit wayward. With only 135 runs to his name in six innings at a strike rate of 139.17, Iyer doesn't seem to have found his rhythm. In fact, apart from a lone solid 60, he hasn't really been up to the task. The Knight Riders were presumably looking for stability, but that has not materialized yet. Will he make a comeback, or is this just another one of those costly bets?

  Mohammed Shami:

Mohammed Shami Who Was The Leading Wicket-Taker In IPL2019-2023 Has 106 Wickets In His Bag At An Average Of 22.01. He Missed IPL 2024 Due To Undergoing Surgery And Now Returned To The Tournament. This Time, SRH Spent ₹10 Crore On This Veteran, Expecting Him To Be Their Lead Bowler In 2025.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was a match in which he played; hence, he did not come back rusty. Yet, he continued to remain a non-factor, especially in the death overs. Whether it is due to the recent changes in playing conditions or the saliva ban lift to assist other bowlers, it wasn't the same for Shami. Having taken just 5 wickets in 7 matches, with an average of 52.20, it is his economy rate of 10.8 which has really cost the team.

  Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant's season is not proving out to be too good. For someone who is the most expensive player ever in the IPL, his numbers have not backed up well with 106 runs from seven innings at an average of 15.14 and a very poor strike rate of below 100. As captain and a marquee player for LSG, Pant has hardly looked anywhere near his best. It is as if the pressures of it are getting to him, which his body language clearly reflects in an out-of-sorts form. Pant, the flamboyant cricketer, now looks very much weighed down by all the expectations.

Ishan Kisan:

It is not surprising at all that SRH has been lagging in IPL 2025 with another one of their big buys who has failed to make an impact. Ishan Kishan, who announced his season with a staggering century against Rajasthan Royals, has gone totally quiet since. In the next six games, he has scored a mere 32 runs, averaging 6.40 with a strike rate under 95. During this stretch, he could not even hit a six. He continues to be haunted by inconsistency, and this year is no different-the only thing that has changed is the jersey.
