India crushed West Indies by seven wickets on the final day of the second and last Test in Delhi. This gave Shubman Gill’s men a 2-0 whitewash victory and it was also India’s first Test series win after over a year. Not to mention Gill’s first as skipper and the 10th straight one vs West Indies.
Where Do India Stand on the WTC Points Table and in the ICC Test Rankings?Needless to say, there was some activity for India on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. Remember the WTC points table is different from the ICC Test Rankings. The former is the table on which the two sides who face off in the WTC Final are determined while the latter indicates which team is ranked higher.

India have consolidated their third place on the WTC points table 2025-27. They are placed below toppers Australia and second-place Sri Lanka. India have 52 points and a PCT of 61.90 after winning four out of seven games. They have lost two and one ended in a draw. It takes them closer to the top two. The top two will eventually face off in the WTC Final in 2027. India have played two finals but never won.
In the ICC Test Rankings 2025, India are in fourth position with 3881 points and a rating of 108. The top three comprise Australia, South Africa and England. India will hope to break into the top three sooner rather than later.

India’s next Test assignment begins on November 14 when they host South Africa in a two-match series. South Africa currently hold the rubber since India drew 1-1 when they toured there in 2023-24. Before that South Africa had won 2-1 in 2021-22. The last time South Africa played a Test series in India, the hosts won 3-0. South Africa have won one Test series in India and that was way back in 2000 when they whitewashed the hosts 2-0.
The 2-0 win vs West Indies was India’s first since beating Bangladesh 2-0 on October 1, 2024. Since then, India lost 3-0 vs New Zealand at home, lost 3-1 vs Australia Down Under and then drew 2-2 vs England in the opposition’s den. They will hope that this victory is the start of returning to winning ways with a new skipper at the helm.
